At San Juan Regional Medical Center, we understand that children are constantly learning, growing, and developing, and they do this best through play. Pediatric physical and occupational therapy aims to improve movement and dexterity development by working on age appropriate gross and fine motor skills. Pediatric speech and language therapy is designed to improve developmental communication milestones such as vocabulary, listening, understanding, and speech articulation.
Pediatric rehabilitation services that are offered include:
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech-language therapy
- Developmental screenings
- Specialized feeding and swallowing evaluation and therapy
- Post-discharge functional program
Games, swings, lofts, and fun activities are a few examples of the tools children use to help them with their growth and development at the San Juan Regional Medical Center Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient Center.
Meet Our Team
Janelle Corley, PTA
Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient Center Coordinator
Janelle graduated from the Physical Therapist Assistant Program with an Associates of Applied Science from San Juan College in 2015. Additionally, Janelle has a Bachelors in Career and Technical Education through Eastern New Mexico University, which she obtained in 2020. Janelle has been practicing in the Physical Therapy field since 2015 and has worked with SJRMC since 2016, and in that time has worked in multiple settings, including Adult Outpatient Rehabilitation, Skilled Nursing, Acute Care with SJRMC and her current and most favorite setting, Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient Center. Janelle has experience with a multitude of diagnoses, including, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Torticollis and Plagiocephaly, Down Syndrome, Gross Motor Developmental Delay and a multitude of genetic disorders. Additionally, Janelle has worked with Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation from 2015-2019 with the focus on Adaptive Sport Camps here in San Juan County. Janelle's main goal is to improve as many lives as possible through the world of Rehabilitation.
In her free time, Janelle enjoys spending time with her husband and son who enjoy all the outdoor activities that the Four Corners Region has to offer.
Physical Therapy
Bryan Smith, PT, DPT
Bryan graduated with his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. He then went on to pursue his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions also in Provo. While there, he completed an internship through Primary Children’s Hospital’s Outpatient Rehab department in Layton, Utah where he received experience working with a wide variety of kids and diagnoses from neurological conditions, orthopedics, and developmental conditions including torticollis and plagiocephaly. He is a member of the Pediatrics special interest group of the American Physical Therapy Association.
He grew up in a small town of Thatcher, AZ and enjoys spending time with family and also enjoys playing tennis, pickleball, and volleyball. He and his wife Kimberly recently moved to Farmington in 2021 with their two kids, Todd and Sally.
Occupational Therapy
Stacey Bentley, OTR
Stacey was born and raised in San Juan County. She attended Aztec Schools and graduated from Aztec High in 1997. Stacey attended Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and graduated with a Masters in Occupational Therapy in May 2004. Stacey married her husband in June 2001 and they moved back to the Four Corners in 2004 following her graduation. They raised their two children in San Juan County, but moved to San Antonio, Texas for four years in June 2017.
Now that they are back in the area, Stacey enjoys watching her son play football and her daughter cheer. She also enjoys camping and fishing at Vallecito Lake with her family.
Demitri Walker, COTA
Demitri received her Associate of Applied Science in 2017 after completing the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at San Juan College. She is a skilled healthcare provider that uses occupation to promote meaningful living and is honored to work in pediatrics.
Demitri desires to make a difference and knows Occupational Therapy is a hands-on way to improve quality of life for children and their families. Demitri believes true joy and fulfillment is found when we choose to serve, and feels blessed that she gets to serve the community of San Juan County.
Speech Language Pathology
Cherayah M. Valdez, M.S., CF-SLP
Cherayah graduated in May 2016 with her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders from Bob Jones University, a Christian school in South Carolina. Soon after, she became a graduate student at Eastern New Mexico University and graduated with her Master of Science degree in Communicative Disorders in December 2020.
Cherayah is originally from this area and believes there is no better place on earth to live than the beautiful “Land of Enchantment.” During her graduate school years, Cherayah worked in the Farmington and Shiprock schools as an Apprentice in Speech and Language; this time as an apprentice further grew her passion to work with kids in this region. Communication is a daily activity that most people do not think twice about. So many kids struggle to share their thoughts, to communicate about feelings and daily happenings; Cherayah loves and appreciates the opportunity to help these kids speak their mind.
In her free time, Cherayah enjoys spending time with family and friends, singing and playing the piano for her church’s worship team, being a youth sponsor for the church’s youth group, baking cupcakes, eating way too many chocolate chip cookies, and having an un-healthy fascination with plants.
Ali McGuire, CCC-SLP, CLC
Ali is a Farmington local who graduated with her master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from the Texas Tech University Health Science Center in 2016. She also received training to become a Certified Lactation Consultant in 2016. Ali enjoys treating infants, toddlers, and children with feeding difficulties. Helping moms and dads feed their babies is one of her favorite things to do!
Ali lives in Farmington with her husband and two children. They enjoy all the outdoor activities the area has to offer.
Brooke Fiske, MS, CCC-SLP, CLC
M. Brooke Fiske grew up in Farmington. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from the University of Northern Colorado and her Master of Science degree in SLP from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. She has earned her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a member of their association. She is certified in LSVT LOUD treatment for patients with neurological disorders. She has advanced training in evaluation and treatment of dysphagia in the pre-term infant, infant, and pediatric populations. She is a Certified Lactation Counselor from training and testing through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice.
Brooke has inpatient as well as outpatient clinical experience in feeding and swallowing disorders in infant through geriatric populations. She is skilled in completion of Modified Barium Swallow Studies in both adults and pediatrics. She evaluates and treats medically fragile patients from Intensive Care Unit to Special Care Nursery. She was previously a member of the Four Corners Cleft Palate Team. She has been an SLP for SJRMC for over eight years. Brooke loves spending her free time with her husband and four children enjoying the outdoors.
Jessica Bozzell, MA, CCC-SLP
Jessica received her Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education and her Master of Arts in communication disorders from New Mexico State University in 2015. She holds the certificate of Clinical Competence with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Jessica has served the pediatric population providing speech and language therapy since beginning her career as an SLP and her clinical experience includes working with children with a variety of speech and language disorders. Jessica has served on cleft palate clinic teams in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Lima, Peru.
Jessica moved to the Four Corners region with her family in 2019. She enjoys working with children and families to improve communication skills and increase functional communication and quality of life.
