Midwifery and Women's Health

Services

At San Juan Health Partners Midwifery and Women’s Health, our caring and compassionate Certified Nurse Midwives care for women from puberty to menopause, meeting women’s health needs across the Four Corners. This includes women who are pregnant.

Nurse midwives specialize in normal births and work closely with OB-GYN doctors, specialists, nutritionists, physical therapists, counselors, lactation consultants, and others to best meet the health needs of women.

They combine the ancient art of safely guiding women through pregnancy and birth with the technology and science of modern obstetrics, giving you the best of both worlds.

San Juan Health Partners Midwifery and Women’s Health specializes in sensitive, listening care for the mother and baby throughout pregnancy as well as after delivery. We provide complete prenatal care, delivery at San Juan Regional Medical Center, postpartum follow-up and breastfeeding support.

Preconception Counseling

Sit down with a midwife and make a plan before you conceive to increase your chances of a healthy pregnancy. Our midwives can guide you through your nutritional needs and order screenings to help ensure that your pregnancy gets off to a great start.

Prenatal Education

There is a lot to learn about your changing body and your baby when you are pregnant. Our midwives focus on educating you and your entire family about what to expect. They will also prepare you for what happens once your baby has arrived, including skin-to-skin contact, delayed cord clamping, breastfeeding, and postpartum care for you and your whole family.

Labor and Birth

You will get to know all the midwives throughout your pregnancy. That way, when you deliver, you will be reassured that whichever midwife is on call is someone you know and trust. Delivery takes place at San Juan Regional Medical Center with the full labor support of your midwife and nurse. Doctors are available for consultation, collaboration or transfer of care when necessary.

Family is incorporated into your labor and birth process as much as possible, depending on your individual preference. You will have the freedom to move around and choose the birth position that’s most comfortable for you. The midwives also support a variety of pain management options:

    • Jacuzzi
    • Massage
    • Counter pressure
    • Talking through contractions
    • Birth ball and peanut
    • IV pain meds
    • Epidural
