Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

The Wound Treatment Center is also home to two hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers. The Sherman and Sally Dugan Center for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is one of its kind in the area. The Dugan's graciously purchased and donated both chambers to the Wound Treatment Center to bring this specialized treatment to our community.

Pressurized oxygen helps wounds heal faster than other therapies if a wound is so severe that oxygen-rich blood cannot reach the damaged tissue. Breathing 100 percent oxygen at increased pressure causes large amounts of oxygen to be dissolved into the blood and area of the wound, which grows new blood vessels and stimulates the healing process. Many injuries such as diabetic wounds, chronic osteomyelitis, or radiation damage can benefit from our hyperbaric chamber. Not all wounds require this advanced treatment.

Types of wounds we treat:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Failed surgical flaps/graphs
  • Internal radiation burns or tissue wounds

For a patient in the chamber, the process is comfortable and there is no noticeable difference breathing the compressed oxygen. The patient may notice the change in pressure as it increases or decreases, but the sensation is similar to changing altitude in an airplane or driving a car through the mountains.

Located at the Wound Treatment Center, this hyperbaric treatment center is named after local Farmington residents and benefactors Sherman and Sally Dugan.
