Emergency Department and Urgent Care are Here for Urgent and Emergent Medical Issues; Not COVID-19 Testing Sites

San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department and San Juan Health Partners Urgent Care clinic are here for you and available for your urgent and emergent medical needs. When you are experiencing an acute illness or injury, or a true urgent or emergent medical issue, we encourage you to visit us. Both the ED and Urgent Care are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year for everyone who needs us. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to progress, we are seeing more and more patients utilizing the ED and Urgent Care as COVID testing sites.

“Please, don’t treat the ED or Urgent Care as COVID testing sites. We are always here to diagnose and treat your acute illnesses and injuries but coming to the ED simply for a COVID test can interfere with our ability to take care of patients with medical emergencies,” said Dr. Brad Greenberg, Emergency Medicine Physician and Medical Director of Emergency Preparedness.

There are many testing sites in our community. We have a list of several of them here: https://www.sanjuanregional.com/coronavirus/testing-vaccination-information.

Stay safe. Get tested when you need to. But please remember, the Emergency Department and Urgent Care are not your testing sites. Thank you for helping us focus our care on the patients who need us most.

COVID to Home

San Juan Regional Medical Center is coordinating care and providing close monitoring to COVID-19 patients and those with signs and symptoms of the virus while they recover at home through our COVID to Home (C2H) clinic.

This program, which is based on Vanderbilt University’s Care Model, has treated more than 700 patients since April. It is available to COVID patients who do not have a primary care provider who are either discharged home for self-isolation or do not require hospitalization. C2H providers conduct routine telemedicine visits, either by phone or video conferencing, to follow up with the patients to ensure safe and effective care at home until they have recovered.

Goals of the C2H clinic include:

· Utilize telemedicine for frequent monitoring to promote social distancing

· Coordinate safe and effective transfer to a higher level of care when indicated

· Decrease the number of COVID-19 related visits to Urgent Care and the Emergency Department

· Decrease the number of admitted patients to the hospital secondary to safe and effective care at home

· Decrease healthcare worker exposure to COVID-19

· Conserve PPE

· Promote social distancing to flatten the curve and mitigate overwhelming the local healthcare infrastructure

Patients who are interested in this program can call 505.609.6284 to be screened for enrollment. Providers who would like to refer a patient and/or get a copy of the protocol are also asked to call this number.
