Program Details
Healthy F.E.T. Kids is an offshoot of San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Full Engagement Training program, which began in 2004.
The Healthy F.E.T. Kids board meets to decide which schools to invite to participate in the upcoming year. The program begins with the Healthy F.E.T. Kids team visiting the school and presenting program highlights and principles to teachers and administrators, who then integrate the ideas and practices into their curriculum after participating in the training. Principles include integrating physical movement before class or after assignments, adjusting eating habits, offer stress and movement breaks.
Educator two-and-one-half day training is available during the summer months and help address and discuss the following subjects:
- What inspires you?
- How to get your passion back?
- How do you deal with stressors?
- Movement
- Good Nutrition
- Recovery

Upon completion of the initial teacher and administrator training session, the F.E.T. team follows up by attending school health fairs and field days to reinforce the healthy tips and practices. The team uses plastic food models to demonstrate proper food portion sizes, teaches kids about the importance of making good food choices.
Exploring fun ways to exercise is an additional goal, using Therabands, which are similar to giant rubber bands that can be stretched to strengthen muscles. The importance of hydration and finding quiet time for rest and recovery are additional topics presented by the team.
