Monday, April 29, 2013 San Juan Regional Medical Center Receives Echocardiography Accreditation from IAC

April 23, 2013 – San Juan Regional Medical Center recently received a three-year term of accreditation in echocardiography for adult transthoracic procedures by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

Early detection of life threatening heart disorders and other diseases is possible through the use of echocardiography procedures. An echocardiogram is a type of ultrasound test that uses sound waves to create a moving picture of the heart that is more detailed than standard X-Ray. This procedure is done by a sonographer and interpreted by a physician to diagnose areas of cardiovascular disease.

San Juan Regional Medical Center underwent a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of IAC experts. The IAC grants accreditation only to facilities that provide quality patient care, in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process including detailed case study review.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States. San Juan Regional Medical Center is committed to heart disease prevention and education. More information about the IAC accreditation can be found at intersocietal.org/echo.
