February marks San Juan Regional Medical Center’s eighth year raising awareness about heart health during National Heart Month. This year’s A Fair of the Heart health fair on Saturday, February 13, will include a special visit from the Abiomed Impella Mobile Learning Lab. The event will also feature the Goosebump 5K Timed Race and One Mile Fun Run.
 
Impella, the World’s Smallest Heart Pump, helps save the lives of patients who have suffered both a heart attack and shock. San Juan Regional Medical Center is the only provider in the Four Corners with this life-saving technology. We’re inviting the public to visit the Mobile Learning Lab for highly interactive Impella learning experiences, product discussions and demonstrations. It’s a unique opportunity to see the World’s Smallest Heart Pump up close. It’s also a great chance to learn more about the inner workings of the heart, and see it in action. The mobile learning lab, housed in a 90 foot long trailer, will be in the Medical Office Building parking lot at 407 South Schwartz Avenue from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Visitors to A Fair of the Heart will also be able to meet the Heart Center’s new lung specialist for the first time, speak with a cardiologist, and receive several free screenings including baseline EKGs, blood pressure checks, Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement, target heart rate calculation, and risk for peripheral vascular disease. San Juan Regional Medical Center and San Juan Regional Heart Center are also offering free community CPR and AED training for participants 12 and older. For participants who really want to get their heart pumping, the Goosebump Race starts at 11:00 a.m. It includes a timed 5K race and one mile fun run. Early online registration is free and includes a t-shirt and race packet. Sign up now until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5 at sanjuanregional.com/afairoftheheart. Race packet pickup and late registration will be held at San Juan Regional Heart Center on Friday, February 12, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
