5th Annual A Fair of the Heart Health Fair and Goosebump Race
San Juan Regional Heart Center Celebrates Heart Month with 5th Annual Goosebump Race and A Fair of the Heart Health Fair
In celebration of February’s National Heart Month, San Juan Regional Heart Center will host its fifth Goosebump Race and A Fair of the Heart health fair, on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at San Juan Regional Heart Center (407 South Schwartz Avenue in Farmington). These annual activities are meant to educate the community about heart disease, and empower people to play an active role in their heart health.
The day’s events start with A Fair of the Heart health fair from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. New to this year’s event is the Mega Heart XL. Come take a tour inside this bigger-than-life, inflatable heart, and learn about its chambers and functions.
Back by popular demand, this year’s heart-health fair will include free community CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training sessions for those 12 and older. To learn more about these life-saving techniques, sign up for an hour-long training session at sanjuanregional.com/afairoftheheart. Free cardiac screenings including baseline EKGs, free blood pressure screenings, and open discussions with San Juan Regional Heart Center cardiologists will be offered at this year’s A Fair of the Heart. Heart-health nutrition, free body mass index (BMI) assessments, and educational opportunities will also be available.
The Goosebump Race starts at 11:00 a.m. and includes a one mile fun run or timed 5k race. Early registration is now open until February 15, and is available on our website. Registration is free and includes a race packet. Packet pickup and late registration are on Friday, February 22, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at San Juan Regional Heart Center (407 South Schwartz Avenue in Farmington).
Throughout the month of February, a $15 lipid panel will be available at San Juan Regional Medical Center (801 West Maple Street in Farmington) from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:00 a.m. to 3:30p.m. during weekends; and at the Outpatient Diagnostic Center (2300 East 30th Street, Building C in Farmington) from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. No appointment is necessary. The lipid panel tests for cholesterol levels including HDL, LDL, and triglycerides, which are important indicators of heart health. Adults who would like to take advantage of this opportunity are asked to fast for 12 hours before the test to ensure accuracy; water is permitted. Lab results will be mailed to the patient, and can be discussed with a physician.
